General Information/Instructions

  • Reservation rules will be applied as per current government regulations. Detailed guidelines on reservations are provided in Annexure-2 and 3 of the official Notification.
  • The advertised number of vacancies is provisional and subject to change based on the actual vacancy position prior to the finalization of appointments. Appointment orders will be issued in phases by the appointing authority, corresponding to the available vacancies at the time of appointment.
  • Defense personnel who have been discharged or are anticipated to be discharged from the Armed Forces due to duty-related disabilities incurred in forward areas may also be considered for selection, provided they meet other qualifications and medical authorities confirm that their disability does not impede their ability to efficiently perform the duties of an Assistant Surgeon (General) with Speciality qualifications.
  • Should no qualified and suitable female candidates be available for reserved vacancies, these positions will be filled by male candidates from the corresponding communal categories.
  • A specific 3.5% reservation, within the 30% quota for Backward Classes (excluding Muslim), is designated for Backward Class Muslims (BCMs). All concessions, relaxations, and benefits extended to BC candidates are equally applicable to BC Muslim candidates.
  • The term B.C. (Backward Class), as used throughout this document including the online application form, should be understood to encompass “B.C. (other than Muslims) and B.C.(Muslims)”, with BCMs specifically denoting Backward Class Muslims.
  • Reservation for Differently Abled Persons: The provisions of the Tamil Nadu Government Servants (Conditions of Service) Amendment Act 2017 (Act 30 of 2017) will apply. 4% of the posts are reserved for Differently Abled candidates, who must provide a physical fitness certificate from the Medical Board of a Government Medical College. This includes Assistant Surgeon (General) with Speciality qualification for categories such as LD, LC, CP, DF, MuD, AC, SLD (with 40%-80% Disability).
  • Person Studied in Tamil Medium (PSTM): As per Section 2(d) of the Tamil Nadu Appointment on Preferential Basis in the Services under the State of Persons Studied in Tamil Medium (Amendment) Act, 2020, a ‘Person studied in Tamil medium’ refers to an individual who has completed their studies through the Tamil medium of instruction up to the educational qualification required for direct recruitment, as specified by the rules, regulations, or orders governing state service appointments.
  • Reservation for Ex-servicemen: Rule 18 of the Special Rules for Tamil Nadu Medical Services, as amended by G.O.(Ms)No.322, Health and Family Welfare Department, dated 15.07.2025, will be implemented. Five percent (5%) of the posts are reserved for service members deputed for military duty and for non-service candidates who served in the military under a Short Service Commission or Regular Service Commission, as per the Government of Tamil Nadu’s 200-point roster. Ex-servicemen candidates who have already been discharged must present their Discharge Certificate from the Defence services, pension payment order, etc. Serving personnel (yet to be discharged) must provide an undertaking as specified in Annexure 8A (in Annexure–8) and a certificate form for serving personnel in Annexure 8B (in Annexure–8).
  • Words denoting masculine gender in these instructions should be understood to include feminine gender, where the context requires.
  • The ‘No Maximum age limit’ clause implies that candidates must not have exceeded 60 years of age as on 01.07.2025 or at the time of their selection/appointment to the position.
  • Applicants from categories other than SCs, SC(A)s, STs, MBC&DNCs, BCs, and BCMs who possess five or more years of service in State/Central Government are ineligible to apply, regardless of whether they meet the age limit criteria.

How to Apply

  • Candidates must submit applications exclusively through the online portal on the Board’s official website, www.mrb.tn.gov.in.
  • Before commencing the application process, candidates should prepare scanned images of their color photograph and signature. (It is advisable to store these in a CD/DVD/Pen drive for easy access).
  • A valid email ID and mobile number are essential for registration. Candidates must ensure these remain active until the declaration of results, as the MRB will send all communications, including details on certificate verification and other important messages, exclusively to the registered email ID.
  • Applicants should note that all details provided in the online application, such as Candidate Name, Post Applied, Communal Category, Date of Birth, Address, and Email ID, will be deemed final. No modifications will be permitted after the online application deadline. Candidates are advised to complete the online application form with extreme care, as requests for changes to these details will not be entertained.
  • Candidates are required to register their mobile number in the application to receive SMS updates. All official communications from the MRB will be sent via email and SMS to the candidate’s registered email ID and mobile number.
  • Application fees must be paid exclusively through online mode.
  • If a candidate chooses to pay fees via the online payment gateway (Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, or Mobile Wallet Payment), an additional page will appear on the application form. Candidates should follow the provided instructions and enter the necessary details to complete the payment.
  • Following the submission of payment information on the online application form, candidates should await confirmation from the server. It is crucial NOT to press the Back or Refresh buttons to prevent duplicate charges.
  • Upon successful completion of the online transaction, a Registration Number and Password will be generated. Candidates must record these for future reference.
  • A Registration Slip will be generated upon successful transaction. Candidates are advised to print this Registration Slip (a copy of the filled-in application form) for their records.
  • After submitting the application, candidates have the option to save or print their application in PDF format.
  • By entering their Registration Number and password, candidates can download and print their application if needed.
  • Candidates are not required to mail a printout of the online application or any supporting documents to the Board. Certificate verification will typically occur only for candidates who qualify for the subsequent stage of selection.
